In July 2017, Paul Wilkins was invited to participate in an exclusive National Theatre workshop for Ann Duck, a new musical written by Cush Jumbo OBE ( The Good Wife, Criminal Record ) with music by Joseph Atkins. Based on the true story of Ann Duck, "a musical about a real-life girl in an 18th-century London gang, headed by a sword-wielding mixed-race teen called Ann Duck"as described by Cush Jumbo in British Vogue. Ann Duck (c. 1717–1744) was a mixed-race gang member in 18th-century London, notorious for her involvement in the violent "Black Boy Alley Gang." Despite numerous arrests, she evaded conviction multiple times before being hanged at Tyburn in 1744 after her final trial.

The workshop was presented to invited guests of the National Theatre, including acclaimed producers Sonia Friedman and other leading figures in the theatre industry.
